As a team and Cornerstone Robotics as a whole organization, we like to reach out into our community. We have hosted multiple VEX IQ competitions as well as the VEX IQ State Championship for three years in a row. We also go to local bookstores and libraries to demonstrate to people what robotics is all about. We are a home school team and because of this we especially like going into home school groups and showing both kids and adults what robotics is.
Something that I believe is really important is reaching out into your community and teaching younger kids about robotics. This year will be my (Rachel) third year coaching a VEX IQ team. My team has boys in 2rd - 4th Grade and I absolutely love coaching them. It’s so amazing to take what I’ve learned in VRC and have the opportunity to teach younger students about it. It’s awesome to see them having a blast while making super cool robots that they’re so proud of. Teaching these kids about robotics isn’t just a great way to get robotics started at a young age. It’s a great way to learn something about yourself. I highly recommend becoming a VEX IQ coach, because you’re not just teaching these kids, they teach you something too.
